“It’s what’s inside that counts!” That’s what we hear all through our early formative years, until one day a bully or a foe or a rival pops that bubble of truth that our parents have carefully built around us.
The modern society we live in today has repeatedly defied that adage, time and time again. But, there is at least one actress in Hollywood who doesn’t mind being self-deprecating on-screen, while managing to maintain a healthy self-image off-screen.
She is America Ferrera, the young star of ABC’s hit series, “Ugly Betty.” The idea for the sitcom evolved from the storyline of a popular Spanish “telenovela,” (soap) “Betty La Fea.”
Ferrera has also acted in the films “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” and “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2,” co-starring some of young Hollywood’s hottest female leads.
But, through it all, Ferrera stays true to herself. And, she coninues to support a variety of charity efforts. She is an Ambassador to Save the Children, and has also participated in the Stand Up to Cancer campaign, among other causes.
Not to mention, that she has continually broken down barriers for all of us Latinas with “a little something extra!”
