And, for those of you reading this blog who understand Spanish, please check out Telemundo Orlando’s “Triunfadores” story about me, below!

Para los que entienden espa~nol, favor de ver el video de Telemundo Orlando que grabaron de mi, para su segmento, “Triunfadores.”

This has been a pretty exciting day, which started off with establishing some international connections! I contacted a girl in England who has spina bifida. I met her many years ago, when she visited Orlando. I’m so grateful to be able to get back in touch with you, Shanna! This entire “blog experience” reminds me more and more that the wants, needs, and hopes of people living with spina bifida are universal.

Actually, I’m very happy to be writing this entry today as the co-founder of this blog’s Facebook group sits next to me! Paola and I have been racking our brains this afternoon, thinking of ideas. My friend for ten years now, she actually has an older brother with spina bifida, and so she has been around many people in the physically-challenged community.

I wrote a letter to be sent to singer Ricky Martin. You probably know him best for shakin’ his bon-bon in the hit music video for “Livin’ La Vida Loca.”  But, he is also the founder and president of the Ricky Martin Foundation, which seeks to prevent human trafficking and defend children’s rights. He is also a Goodwill ambassador to UNICEF, and is working towards opening a child development and prevention center for at-risk youth in Loíza, Puerto Rico.

It’s clear that this father of two has the heart to work with kids. And, he is bilingual– so he can speak on behalf of the Latino community, which has the highest incidence of spina bifida.

I am signing off for now, but rest assured that I am still writing letters and E-mails, and putting up flyers! We’re working as hard as we can to find our hero!

May God Bless,

Laurita  😉
