Day 73- Gloria Estefan

This was not really one of those “miraculous finds”- rather, it was a good idea from Mom that I left to chance. And, I believe it’s paid off already! I’m writing a letter to Gloria Estefan. The Cuban singing sensation from Miami has become a Latina legend, thanks in no small part to her producer husband, Emilio Estefan.

The Gloria Estefan Foundation works in support of many different causes, among those being UNICEF, the American Red Cross, and Save the Children.

But what really compelled me to contact Estefan is the fact that she is an avid supporter of The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, and its fundraising arm, The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis. Interestingly enough, The Buoniconti Fund was begun by Marc Buoniconti, who partnered with my friend Cody Unser to premiere her documentary in Orlando! Thank you for playing “Six Degrees of Separation!”

My day, for those of you interested, consisted of my semiweekly trip to UCF, and later, dinner at Bar Louie with Mom. That’s pretty much it. No major news, except that it was fun.

I’ll leave you now, so that I can get myself ready for tomorrow’s activities. On the agenda: Go to Valencia with Mom to study, and socialize a bit.

In conclusion, I think it’s obvious why I chose Gloria for “Day 73.” People with spina bifida clearly have a stake in breakthroughs in paralysis research. Add to that the fact that Gloria is a great advocate for the paralyzed community– you can’t help but get up and dance, because, eventually…the rhythm IS going to get you!
