Day 131- Regis Philbin

Who wants to be a hero? Could Regis be our final answer?

There are few rare figures in modern culture that seem to permeate several generations. Your grandparents watched them, then your parents, and then you. Regis Philbin is definitely one of those rare public figures. However long his generational span, it certainly seems to me that Mr. Philbin has been doing the talk show circuit forever. But, just because he’s not new doesn’t mean you should throw his career a “lifeline” just yet!

Regis is currently the host of “Live with Regis and Kelly” alongside “Day 130,” Kelly Ripa. He became a pop culture phenom with my own generation when he hosted “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” Philbin also hosted the first season of “America’s Got Talent,” which was produced by Simon Cowell.

Last June, Philbin hosted the Samsung’s Four Seasons of Hope gala for his fifth consecutive year. The all-star event raises funds for several children-related charities, such as the Arnold Palmer Foundation, John Legend’s Show Me campaign, which encourages community involvement in ending poverty, and Dan Marino Foundation, which provides services and support to children with special needs through outreach, transition programs, and scientific research.

Also, last August, Philbin hosted a special episode of “Millionaire,” in which celebrities are given the opportunity to play to win $50,000 for their charity of choice.

On and off the air, Philbin is truly a class act. But the Daytime Emmy winner is no stranger to struggles. The father of four, Regis has a son who was born with some missing vertebrae, as well as some leg muscles. His son uses a wheelchair. His obvious empathy for the physically challenged community makes me feel confident that he will respond in one way or another to my request on behalf of those with spina bifida. But, don’t expect Mr. Philbin to be an avid reader of “Holdin’ Out for a Hero”– it’s my understanding that he eschews technology like the plague!

That being said, there is a lot to be said for keeping an old-school vibe. I’m down with that!

Fellow Floridians, hold on to your wool hats! It’s been reported it could possibly snow a little here. Now, I’m awaiting no blizzard– but a few flurries may fall our way. Stay warm, and make yourself some hot chocolate.

Peace & love to all,

Laurita ♥
