It was about time I write to another Irish guy! Gotta love them. And, in case you don’t recall, Ireland is the nation with the highest incidence rate of spina bifida in the world.
Actor Liam Neeson has given back to his homeland, through his support of Ireland Funds, whose mission is “to be the largest worldwide network of people of Irish ancestry and friends of Ireland dedicated to raising funds to support programs of Peace and Reconciliation, Arts and Culture, Education and Community Development throughout the island of Ireland.”
But there’s enough room in Liam’s heart for other causes around the globe, such as the ONE campaign, which fights global AIDS and extreme poverty. Another beneficiary of Neeson’s kindness is Clothes Off Our Back, which auctions off celebrity attire to benefit children’s charities.
Neeson also contributes to the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, which treats over 100,000 patients each year who are suffering from rare and complex conditions.
Last but not least (and it has to be said), I loved Liam in “Love Actually!” That is one of my all-time favorite films, and he really delivered in his performance.
Let’s hope that the Irishman feels compelled to join our humble little effort for spina bifida awareness. It would be great to have supporters overseas, especially in places of such high incidence.
I’ve got a few things I’ve got to do now, but please make sure to check back daily if you can, and let me know if you have any ideas that would improve “Holdin’ Out for a Hero” by E-mailing me at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
