Not wanting to stray too far from the causes that are absolutely closest to my heart, I scanned Look to the Stars today, trying to find a celebrity that is heavily involved in working with the special needs community. It was there that I found out about actress and model Eva Longoria Parker.
When she’s not playing a “desperate housewife,” or attending one of NBA hubby Tony Parker’s games (with the San Antonia Spurs), Eva’s improving the quality of life for people with special needs. (Um, what’s our mission here at “Holdin’ Out?”)
The “Desperate Housewives” star founded Eva’s Heroes, a non-profit organization whose mission is “to enrich the lives of people with intellectual special needs.”
According to Wikipedia, that’s not all Eva does to make a difference in the world. She has worked with National Council of La Raza (NCLR), which is described as “the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States.”
Last year, Longoria Parker was appointed to a bi-partisan commission established for the purpose of creating a National Museum of the American Latino.
Eva is also the national spokesperson for PADRES Contra El Cáncer, as well as an avid supporter of Clothes Off Our Back, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
As if that weren’t enough already (just kidding!), she was named Philanthropist of the Year by The Hollywood Reporter for “her commitment to Latino causes and giving back to the community.”
And to think she does it all– with flawless style. We should all be so talented!
Oh yeah, when I write to her, I promise not to call her out for using the word “heroes” in the name of her foundation. 😉
I can’t wait to contact her! I will “see” you all tomorrow.
Much Love, ♥
