It takes a very strong man to pull a “rock bottom” wrestling move. It takes an even stronger man to have a record of charity such as that which Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson holds.
A retired professional wrestler and now an actor (in films like “Walking Tall” and “The Scorpion King”), Johnson is dedicating a lot of time, energy, and– yes, strength to good causes, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Make the Difference Network, and the Parkinson Society.
The Rock started his own charity, the Dwayne Johnson Rock Foundation. Its original mission was to help enhance the lives of terminally ill children. In 2008, the organization “shifted its focus to concentrate on youth physical fitness and global education.”
In keeping with Johnson’s own passion for helping kids, he has furthermore supported the Starlight Children’s Foundation whose mission is “brightening the lives of seriously and terminally ill children.”
Unfortunately, I’ve just visited the Make The Difference Network Web site and found out they have gone out of business. It grieves me that any wonderful charity should have to “close its doors.” Still, they are providing links to other charitable resources, and for that, I applaud them.
On a lighter note, I hope that The Rock’s commitment to reaching out to children will compel him to adopt the spina bifida awareness cause.
Thank you all for tuning in tonight! I’ll be back here tomorrow.
