Day 268- Simon Cowell

Despite the bad rep for being too harsh, Cowell cares about people, especially children with ilnesses.

If you’ve ever auditioned for “American Idol,” “The X Factor,” “Britain’s Got Talent,” “Pop Idol,” or “America’s Got Talent,” you’re probably terrified of him. But what most people don’t realize right away about Simon Cowell, is that he is a class act.

In addition to being an extremely successful music production mogul and television show producer, Cowell has lent his voice and his fame to many charitable causes, such as the Elton John AIDS Foundation, the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), and PETA, for which he has appeared in advertisements.

Simon also really cares about The Association of Children’s Hospices, and has been known to invite the kids backstage during “screenings of ‘The X Factor.'” Plus, he supports another organization, Absolute Return for Kids (ARK), which focuses on improving “the life chances of children.” Simon’s track record for caring about people gives me great hope that he will take an interest in the spina bifida cause.

It’s going to be a busy week for me! My classes are picking up the pace, and I’ve been invited to speak at the New Hope for Kids Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on Wednesday as both a wish recipient and now a volunteer! I’m very excited about yet another opportunity to share my story with the local community, and hopefully promote some much-needed spina bifida awareness.

Every now and then, I like to indulge the human need for entertainment by posting a video clip. So, here’s my favorite Simon-related video. This is Susan Boyle’s audition for Season 3 of “Britain’s Got Talent”– and yes, it made me cry! I couldn’t embed it, so just copy and paste the link in the address bar:
