Day 294- Nicole Kidman

In my search for Latino heroes these past few weeks, don’t think I’ve forgotten about the rest of the world! There are many other heroes to cover, all over the globe, so let’s visit the Down Under for a moment.

Her work for UNIFEM proves that when it comes to women's rights, Kidman is no Stepford wife!

Aussie actress Nicole Kidman is yet another leading lady who knows what’s really important. Since 1994, Kidman has been an ambassador to UNICEF Australia. She is also an ambassador for UNIFEM, which is the women’s fund of the United Nations. In Nicole’s own words, “I feel passionately about support for UNIFEM because the work to empower women and advance their human rights is so important.”

In 2004, the UN honored Nicole for her philanthropic work by naming her a “Citizen of the World.” And in February 2009, when much of Victoria, Australia was devastated by brushfires, Kidman and her husband, country music star Keith Urban, donated $5oo,000 to the Red Cross.

With UNIFEM, she has undertaken some amazing advocacy work to combat violence against women. She has even expanded her creative skills to include fashion design! Kidman designed a T-shirt to raise funds and awareness for the UK charity, Breast Cancer Care.

Last April, Kidman joined recording artist Kelly Clarkson to participate in the March For Babies in Nashville, to benefit the March of Dimes.

Really, the list goes on and on, but I don’t. (I’m no Energizer bunny!) I do encourage all of you to read up on these heroic celebrities when you have the time, because it boggles the mind that they even have the time to attend so many charitable functions, in addition to their career-related functions.

I wish you all a very good night– and a very blessed Father’s Day tomorrow. (I love you, Dad!)
